About
As a librarian's child, it is second nature for me to accumulate media and share it with others. I learned this trait from my father, and we communicate with each other through existing media rather than with words. Midnight Funk Association is a recontextualization of the media from my father’s youth that began this indirect form of communication and bonding. In this collection, I create a symbology that tells stories about my upbringing. I also explore analog methods of recording and sharing popular culture and the ephemeral nature of these objects. My collection is an ode to my relationship with my father. The human body is a vessel to mix my father’s symbology with my own. Through performance, the garments break through the glass of a tv screen to boogie down in a dimension that transcends time.
